Centre of Excellence (COE) for Vegetables (Kartarpur), Jalandhar

This COE is approved under National Horticulture Mission of FY 2012-13. This centre is serving the purpose of front line demonstrations and training centre as well as source of quality planting material in form of vegetable seedlings. At this centre various protected structures i.e. Hi-Tech Polyhouse, Naturally Ventilated Polyhouse, Net House and Walk-in-Tunnels have been established to find out the most suitable and economical structure in which quality vegetables can be produced.This COE is actively involved in different activities for framers and other stakeholder’s i.e. production of vegetables nursery seedlings and its doorstep delivery, standardization and demonstration of vegetables under different protected structures, post harvest management facilities and human resource development.

Centre of Excellence (COE) for Fruits, Hoshiarpur

This COE is approved and sanctioned under National Horticulture Mission of FY 2012-13. This centre has played an important role in the production of quality seedlings of citrus, front line demonstrations and training activities. Fruit seedlings are grown through state-of-the-art facilities i.e. Hi-tech polyhouse, Screen house and Net house.This COE has standardized technologies for fruit plantation, an appropriate doseages of fertilizers and water through automated drip fertigation and plastic mulching etc. For post harvest management facilities, this COE has pack house, 2 cold rooms of capacity 5 MT each and a pre cooling room of 2.5 MT capacities to standardize temperature and humidity level required to increase the shelf life of citrus fruits.


Centre of Excellence (COE) for Potato, Jalandhar

This centre primarily aims at demonstrating new technologies for quality seed potato production and its supply to the farmers. The centre constitutes of tissue culture laboratory, plant hardening facilities, aeroponics, shade-net house, insect-net house units, potato grading unit, small cold storage and automated fertigation.

Centre of Excellence (COE) for Floriculture, Doraha

This COE is approved under National Horticulture Mission in FY 2018-19, to standardize and demonstrate the world class floriculture technology. This centre aims at serving the purpose of quality planting material in form of seedlings of flowers and other ornamentals. The high-tech facility of this COE constitutes Hi-tech Dutch-Polyhouse, Naturally Ventilated Polyhouse, Shade Net House, Net House and Walk-in-Tunnels. The post harvest management facility includes pack house having pre cooling room and cold room capacity of 2.5 MT and 5.0 MT respectively to increase the shelf life of different flowers.

Herbal Health Research Consortium Private Ltd, Amritsar:

It is a non–government company incorporated on 29.08.2008 as special purpose vehicle with support of AYUSH Ministry. This state-of-the-art facility is primarily used for preliminary processing of medicinal plants i.e. sorting, dethorning and cleaning for medical applications. Apart from these, this centre has facilities for storage, quality testing of medicinal plants and high-end equipments i.e. HPLC, HPTLC and GC etc.


Multi Fruit Processing Units, Abohar and Hoshiarpur

These multi fruit processing units were established as a special purpose vehicle by Govt. of Punjab in February, 2006. These are the state-of-the art facilities to process different varieties of citrus as well as tropical fruits & vegetables like Tomato, Carrot, Melon, Mango, Guava, Pear, Sweet Gourd, Bitter Gourd, Aloevera and Amla etc. These plants are equipped to switch from one raw material to another in 4-5 hours time. These units are one of unique facilities of India to de-bitter the fruit juices such as Kinnows & Mosambi etc. Each processing plant is equipped to operate for a minimum of 300 days in a year and process approx. 80000 MT of different fruits & vegetables per annum.


State-of-the-Art Agri. & Food Testing Facility

Set up by Govt. of Punjab with initial financial support of DBT-GoI, at Punjab Biotechnology Incubator (PBTI) in Mohali, this facility is NABL accredited, BIS recognized, empanelled by FSSAI for testing of regulated and imported foods, notified as State Water Laboratory, notified under EPA by CPCB and as Class ’A’ Laboratory for consent purposes by PPCB. It has also been notified as National Referral Lab for testing of Genetically Modified Organisms. Additionally, this facility is also recognized as National Reference Lab for Sweets and Confectionary including Honey by FSSAI.


Paddy Straw Briquetting Plant of Capacity 250 Kg/hr in PPP mode at Patiala

This Plant has been setup to conduct R&D trials for enhancing the life of wearable parts of complete briquetting line. This study is jointly conducted by PSCST, TERI & ARCI Hyderabad, supported by Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.


High-Throughput Plant Tissue Culture and Genetic Engineering Facility, NABI

High-throughput Plant Tissue Culture and Genetic Engineering (PTC & GE) research facility has been established in a total area of 7,390 Sq. Feet to facilitate high-quality research in Agri-Biotechnology. This facility has infrastructure for research in the area of GMOs bio safety risk assessment, functional validation of genomic resources and development of transgenic crops for quality improvement.


National Facility for Bio-Equivalence

One of the two centers in the world accredited by World Health Organization (WHO) for conducting bio-equivalence studies of the fixed dose combination (FDC) formulations of anti-tubercular drugs, is established at National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER), Mohali. The Center, in close collaboration with hospitals around Chandigarh, is also involved in conducting Pharmaco-kinetic studies in patient population. NIPER also has state-of-the-art central animal facility, pharmacological and toxicological screening facilities as well as a dedicated center for capacity building of small & medium pharmaceutical industries.


Nanoscience & Technology Facilities

State hosts a center of excellence in nanotechnology in the form of Institute of Nanoscience & Technology, Mohali. The INST has identified nano-biopharma, agricultural nano-technology, and bio-sensors as its priority areas. Besides, a state-of-the-art Nanoscience & Technology facility has also been set up at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.


Pilot Plant for Contract Research /Development & Scale up of APIs and Herbal Products (NIPER Mohali)

undertakes sponsored projects for the development of economically viable processes for bulk pharmaceutical chemicals of synthetic or natural products origin, conventional and novel dosage forms. NIPER is the only institute in India which have the Pharmaceutical Formulation manufacturing Pilot plant facility i.e. Technology Development Centre (TDC) - Dosage form (Formulation) at institute level. The facility is designed and built as per the current Good Manufacturing Practices required for OSD manufacturing (Grade D/ISO class 8). This facility has 200 kg batch size capacity with buildup area of 24102 sq.ft.


Mechanical Design and Fab Facility (MDF), CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh

Mechanical Design and Fab Facility is engaged in mechanical design, fabrication & metrology related work for various R&D activities. Major work involves design, fabrication & assembly, measurements for various mechanical and optical modules/components. The design and fabrication work includes rapid prototyping for plastic and metallic components, fabrication & assembly of optical as well as mechanical components, grinding & polishing of metals and optical materials etc.

Electronics Design and Fabrication Facility, CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh

As a National Laboratory in the area of instrumentation, a well established centralized facility for Electronic Design and Fabrication (EDF) is available in the organization. The facility have infrastructure for different R&D works i.e. analog and digital circuit designing, analog and digital circuit fabrication, analog and digital circuit modification, Embedded system designing, fabrication & modification, PCB designing, PCB fabrication, PCB modification, PCB assembly and PCB testing.
