Genesis

Punjab has been ranked as 6 th most innovative State as per the latest India Innovation Index ranking, jumping four positions up from the previous 10 th rank and has been also recognised as ‘Leader’ for developing strong Start-up ecosystem. This has been possible due to consistent efforts being made by the State Govt. in terms of creating world class infrastructure, enabling environment, skilled human resources, tech-intensive industrial base, financial support etc. towards building robust STI Ecosystem of Punjab.

Mission Innovate Punjab launched by Govt. of Punjab is being steered by Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST), Department of Science, Technology and Environment - Punjab with aim to consolidate synergies between different innovation partners to bring STI at forefront for accelerating socio-economic development of the State. DST, GoI has appreciated PSCST as a model S&T Council in the country and urged PSCST to build Strategic Framework of STI Indicators to map STI Ecosystem of Punjab, which could serve as baseline document for emulation by other states.

Hence, the model framework has been framed by PSCST and State STI Observatory has been developed as a data portal to serve as single window platform.
