MISSION INNOVATE PUNJAB

Government of Punjab has launched Mission Innovate Punjab with the vision to make Punjab a ‘Hub of Research & Innovation’. The Mission is steered by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Department of Science, Technology & Environment Punjab to enhance competitiveness, boost growth, create jobs and achieve sustainable development goals. The Mission strives to build an ecosystem to synergize partnerships between key players viz. Administrative Departments, Ministries, Research Institutions, Universities, Industry, International Organizations and Non-Government Organizations to mainstream research and innovation in the development paradigm of the State. This unique initiative is envisaged to bring in different innovation cultures to drive Knowledge Economy of the State.
Under the Mission, the Council is working with research institutions and universities to facilitate building their research competence, adopting global standards of research, translation of research into knowledge led enterprises, International and Industrial collaborations. It is also working closely with administrative departments to identify state relevant grand challenges & priorities and facilitating networking with research organizations to align their research for solving problems of critical importance. It is facilitating partnership between Institutions and industry to understand unmet industrial problems and provide technological solutions. To nurture and accelerate state’s entrepreneurial culture for transforming innovative ideas into market potential and promoting startups, the Council is facilitating networking of Incubation Centers, Accelerators, Innovation Cells, IPR Cells and providing networking facilities and platforms.

Mission Biotech Punjab

The Mission has been launched by Govt. of Punjab with the vision to accelerate the growth of Biotech sector in the State. It is steered by Punjab Biotechnology Incubator, a spin–off of Punjab State Council for Science and Technology. The State Govt. is facilitating enabling environment for growth of Biotechnology sector through setting up of the State-of-the-art infrastructure, which includes Institutional Cluster set up at Knowledge City, Mohali comprising of National Agri Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Centre of Innovative & Applied Bioprocessing (CIAB), Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Institute of Nano Science & Technology (INST) and Indian School of Business (ISB).
Under the Mission, necessary technical infrastructure and facilities are being provided for growth of biotech industry especially analytical & contractual research, technology validation along with advisory support. The efforts are also being made to provide incubation support to startups and innovators to set up knowledge based enterprises as well as facilities for skilling of scientific and technical personnel for better employability in analytical and certification laboratory set up.

MISSION TANDRUST PUNJAB

Considering the adverse impact of degrading environment and developmental activities on people’s health and the need to address the issues in holistic manner, the Govt. of Punjab has launched Mission Tandrust to make Punjab the healthiest State with healthy people by ensuring a good living environment in consonance with Sustainable Developmental Goals. The Society for Mission Tandrust Punjab, a State level node set up in Directorate of Environment and Climate Change Punjab coordinates the activities of Mission.
The Mission activities are carried out under 10 Sub-Missions, each spearheaded by lead department and supported by line departments. Focused attempts are being made under Mission for air quality improvement, strengthening infrastructure for water quality management through setting up of STPs, CETPs, ETPs for industrial pollution, solid waste management, judicious use of agro-chemicals, massive plantation drive etc.

MISSION POPULARISATION SCIENCE

The Mission has been launched by the State Govt. with the vision to inculcate scientific temper in the masses. Punjab State Council for Science & Technology and Pushpa Gujral Science City (PGSC) under the aegis of Department of Science, Technology & Environment, Punjab strive to create avenues for non-formal science education, promoting innovative thinking among students, taking Science to the doorsteps at all sections of society and public outreach and capacity building.
Some of the Flagship Programmes steered by PSCST include Children’s Science Congress, National Science Day & National Mathematics Day, National Green Corps & Swachchta Action Plan, Nobel Prize Series Event, Har Gobind Khorana Lecture series, Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WaSH) in schools, motivational programs for talented school students and industrial visits. PSCST has been also instrumental in organizing year long Vigyan Utsav Series as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Vigyan Sarvatre Pujyate (Science Week Festival), Science Communication Popularization and its extension (SCoPE) in Punjabi. The Initiatives by PGSC include interactive galleries on frontier areas of Science and Technology, Innovation Hub, Outreach through Mobile Science Exhibition etc.
